Soccer is hitting Montgomery in a big way. RSVP had the pleasure of sitting down with Manny Sanchez, YMCA Director of Soccer, to discuss all the exciting things happening with this sport in the Capital City. Soccer is impacting our city both culturally and economically. Montgomery has already hosted numerous college and youth tournaments during Manny’s tenure. We held the Southern Soccer Cup last March, which brought in over 80 youth teams and their families for the event. Montgomery will again host the Capital of Dreams Champions cup that has a goal of hosting 80 junior soccer teams October 5 & 6.
Do you get bored with the same old workout routine? Maybe you’re stuck in a rut with your trusty old treadmill, or getting sick of the same ol’ same ol’ every week in your exercise class? Allow me to introduce you to Box Mania, a non-choreographed, martial arts based fitness class that includes power punching and kicking combinations on handheld targets. Box Mania uses interval training to develop strength, cardio conditioning and balance, and is popular with both men and women. This fun, challenging exercise program truly gives you a full body workout. Warning: it may be difficult to crawl out of bed the day after your first session.
You know you've done it. You've spent a weekend or two on the couch with your good friends Ben & Jerry, watching movies like “The Karate Kid” and “The Shawshank Redemption” play over and over again on TBS. Your idea of exercise was the walk to the fridge to grab a Diet Coke, because that would make up for the Cherry Garcia you just made disappear (a completely legitimate idea in theory, but unfortunately, not very accurate).
