Bal Masque

Saturday, January 26th was no ordinary evening in Montgomery. White rabbits, tea parties, and colorful costumes encouraged guests of the 56th Annual Bal Masque to journey “Down the Rabbit Hole.” The whimsical set of vibrant, overgrown mushrooms, gigantic flowers, and colorful hats transported the participants to a mystical garden party that made it difficult to remove one ’s self from. Garrett Coliseum served as the venue, and Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Hicks, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel White, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Stewart, Mr. Brandon Smirnoff and Ms. Kayla Denham, Mr. and Mrs. Beverly Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Andrea Murray, Mr. Robert Pelt and Ms. Jill Green served as the elegant floor and reception committee greeting the arriving guests.

Once the guests were seated, beautiful masked members in flamingo headdresses kicked off the tableau. The mad hatter (a dead ringer for Johnny Depp) served as mistress of ceremony as the members danced in search of a missing queen. Members danced in quirky costumes that included sequined jackets, striped pants, striped socks and gold shoes.

The tableau concluded with the presentation of the 2019 Queen of Bal Masque; she was “found” sitting among the mushrooms on a royal throne. She was dressed in an A-line ball gown with a sweetheart neckline and adorned with crystals and pearls in a spectacular shade of teal green. The Queen looked right at home in Wonderland. Following the first dance, guests were invited to dance the night away with the band “Fly By Radio.”
