In Motion

MAY/JUNE 2014

Katy Sulhoff

Spring has been a tease. Cold temps continued creeping in, but with a little luck, by the time this article is published summer will have moved in for good. Motivation wanes during the winter months to tie on tennis shoes and work up a sweat, but the warm weather brings it out in all of us again. And starting in May, The Shoppes at EastChase are offering plenty of incentives to get you moving!

May 24th is the kickoff of the Farmers Market in The Shoppes at EastChase, and this year they are celebrating ten years. In that time, the market has grown from just ten to over 30 vendors and evolved to offer more than homegrown produce.

“We’ve always wanted to promote healthy living,” says Vickie Lawrence, Marketing Manager for The Shoppes. When it comes to healthy living, smart eating and exercise go hand in hand.

After a successful trial run in 2013 of adding yoga to the Farmers Market, Lawrence decided to expand the fitness offerings to Crossfit classes and Zumba for kids. It’s a great opportunity for anyone who wants to be active or just try something new, free of charge. You don’t have to be a pro to participate, as instructors are on hand to guide you through the exercises.

When you’re done, you can continue your focus on whole health and attend a Wellness Seminar by Earth Fare. Cooking demonstrations by Williams-Sonoma will also be available and, of course, plenty of produce brought to you by local growers.

The 10th annual Farmers Market is from 7 a.m. until noon, rain or shine, every Saturday until August 30th, and it is located in the northeast parking lot at EastChase in front of Earth Fare.
