MISS MARY RENFROE STEVENSON REIGNS AT 70th HARLEQUINS BALL

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2019

For years, the Harlequins Ball has been one of Montgomery’s most highly anticipated social events of the season. This year’s ball certainly did not disappoint as the Harlequins krewe, their guests and a beautiful group of debutantes let the good times roll to the sounds of TUB into the early morning hours. Presiding over the festivities was the King of Harlequins and his Queen, Miss Mary Renfroe Stevenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Jefferson Stevenson. Miss Stevenson was escorted by Mr. George Mason Little. MaryRen is a member of Kappa Delta sorority at the University of Alabama, majoring in kinesiology and exercise science. She was joined at the ball by a host of sorority sisters, friends and family. Sarah Spratling once again displayed her expertise in decorating and directing the ball, as well as decorating and providing the beautiful floral arrangements for the ballroom.

Queen MaryRen was a radiant vision wearing a Victorian inspired gown of White satin with an applied 18 inch silver lace hemline that was heavily stoned with Austrian crystals. The strapless bodice featured applied inverted teardrops of white satin and silver lace that fanned across the front and back of the bodice to create the illusion of a Victorian corseted bodice that enhanced the hourglass design. A custom designed whisk collar of white lace with matching silver lace appliques completed the royal vision, created by Jay Herring of Mystick Couturier. Queen MaryRen also wore the Harlequin train of white fur-edged red velvet, embellished with a silver sequined fleur de lis. Keeping with tradition, many wonderful gifts were exchanged among the king, queen, debutantes, krewe and their families. The King surprised Queen MaryRen with a beautiful sapphire and diamond necklace from Heirloom Jewelers. Each debutante received beautiful monogrammed cuff bracelets designed by ExVoto Vintage Jewelry. To cap off a magical evening, a breakfast hosted by the queen’s parents was held on the Bluestone patio at the Montgomery Country Club immediately after the ball with music by the band known as Crawford & Wilson. Those attending enjoyed perfect weather, a delicious breakfast buffet and mimosas.
