Stars in The Park

Montgomery kicked off Independence Day early on July 3 at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival with Stars in the Park. Approximately 3,000 people filled the ASF’s grounds with their blankets, chairs and picnics for a spectacular outdoor concert and firework display commemorating Independence Day. Artistic Director Rick Dildine, Mayor Todd Strange, and Commissioner Elton Dean all spoke at the event.  The Citywide Choir sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful,” and the cast of “Annie” sang several songs to get the crowd excited about their upcoming production. Troy University sponsored the Alabama Educator of the Year Award, which was presented to Jeff Glass of Wetumpka High School by Chancellor Jack Hawkins. Greta Lambert also presented the Tomorrow Kids award to five local students. The evening concluded with a group of 50 community members reading the Declaration of Independence.
