Summer Sun Staples

JULY/AUGUST 2016

Shelby Traff

There's nothing better than a sunny day at the pool, lake or beach, and packing the right items is an important step to ensure your day is relaxing and perfect. There are always new products coming out that make summer adventures just a little bit more exciting, so we've rounded up some of our favorite summer sun staples that will ensure you make the most of your day!

Royal Standard Beach Tote
Beach bags are like swimsuits...you want to show off a new one every year! Lightweight and affordable, these totes come in a variety of sizes and patterns. The one that caught our attention is this solid jute-cotton blend covered with a bold metallic print. This tote comes in a variety of patterns so you can pick the one perfect for your personality! $25, available at Southern Homes and Gardens, 8820 Vaughn Road

Swell Bottle
Looking for a fashion upgrade to the Yeti cup? Swell bottles are the answer. Available in dozens of colors, patterns and sizes, and easy to customize with a monogram, it’s no wonder these have become one of the most popular water bottles in 35 countries. Composed of non-toxic stainless steel, your drink will stay cold for 24 hours or hot for 12. Available in 9 oz., 17 oz. and 25 oz., and we just discovered that the 25 oz. swell bottle holds an entire bottle of wine! Now that’s a Sunday fun day! $25 - $45, available at Southern Homes and Gardens, 8820 Vaughn Road

ECOXPRO Waterproof Case
This might be one of our favorite “must haves” for the summer! We spend way too much money on our devices to not protect them around water and sand. From iPods to BlackBerrys to the latest Android handset, no gadget will go unprotected in this rugged, waterproof case, which doubles as a speaker. Stick your device into the ECOXPRO’s internal mesh pocket (which can also hold credit cards, keys and lip balm), then plug it into the standard audio jack with a standard audio cable and close the case. Now you’re ready to blast your tunes across the beach or even out on the water, since this device floats for up to 30 hours on a single charge. Now that’s cool. $68, www.ecoxgear.com

Bumble and bumble Surf Spray
Beach hair doesn’t have to come with a side of sand. This salt-infused spray offers body and a tousled texture that’ll fool everyone into thinking you just came back from an island getaway. You’ll get that sun-dried look without the damage, thanks to moisture-packed ingredients like seaweed and kelp extract. This styling spray adds volume and texture to the hair to create a sexy, windblown feel; so while Bumble and bumble hasn't exactly bottled the real thing, they've replicated and improved it. $27, available at Doug’s 2, 8131 Vaughn Road

The Royal Standard Towels
When we picked this up, we couldn’t believe it was towel. The Royal Standard Microfiber Beach Towels are super absorbent, thin & lightweight. Ideal for the beach because while it is still a full-size beach towel, it takes up very little space in your beach bag. The sand shakes off with one quick shake, and they dry extremely fast. One woman was purchasing several for a mission trip as she said she can pack four or five in the amount of space one regular towel takes. Available in several patterns and with a section for monogramming, this makes a great gift! $22, available at Tucker Pecan, 350 N. McDonough Street

Ray-Ban Remix Project
Ray-Bans have stood the test of time and are always a stylish choice. They now have a remix project similar to a creative musical mash-up that allows you to take any of Ray-Ban’s eight models and then customize the color and finish of the frames (both the front and the temple arms) as well as the type and color of the lenses. You can even stick a personalized text engraving on the side of the frames. Make your’s online, then look for your custom shades to arrive at your front door within a week. $175–$200, www.ray-ban.com/usa/customize
