RSVP Montgomery

Let’s admit it. Sometimes we are so hungry that every all-you-can-eat buffet we see calls out to us like a siren song. Extra-large pizzas, a huge steak, a bucket of fried chicken—these all have their place at times. What if you aren’t so ravenous, but still want delicious food…maybe just a TASTE of something spectacular? If this is the case, head over to Hampstead and visit one of their newest additions. You won’t be disappointed.

TASTE, on Hampstead High Street, opened in 2017, and is THE place to go in Montgomery for wine, craft beer, and tapas. They offer an extensive wine selection, a variety of wine flights, hand-crafted cocktails, and an array of small plates including flatbreads, salads, sliders, pasta, steak, and desserts.

Owner Clint Hahn and chef/owner Ginger Hahn built TASTE out of their love of wine and the River Region. Rachel Arnone, who runs their marketing, design, and social media, said, “There’s nothing else like TASTE in Montgomery. TASTE is casual, without sacrificing quality.”

“Wine is our passion, but we also have great food—tapas—which are small plates. People don’t always know what tapas are,” Arnone said with a laugh. “Having smaller portions is great when you just need a little something, like on the way to a concert or when you are meeting a few friends after work for a glass of wine. Especially at this time of the year, it’s great to eat a lighter meal before heading into the sauna of Montgomery’s summer.”

The menu changes frequently, a definite plus for a local menu. Many of the sides are seasonal, but there are a few staples, such as the grilled filet with rosemary garlic butter. Chef/owner Ginger Hahn said, “We love buying local where we can. For example, our hydroponic lettuce is from Extreme Green in Auburn, and many of our herbs, like mint and rosemary, are grown here in Hampstead. We also recently purchased vegetables and Wagyu beef from the Eastchase Farmer’s Market.”

Some of the most popular dishes at TASTE are the grilled steak flatbread with black truffle roasted garlic ricotta and caramelized onions, parmesan crusted halibut with heirloom tomatoes and zucchini, and the short rib pasta with a gorgonzola Alfredo sauce. And don’t forget about dessert! The pecan praline bread pudding is a little piece of heaven in a cast iron skillet.

Wine flights are one of the offerings that make TASTE so unique. Guests are served samples of three wines, with a tasting card for each. Arnone is the creative mind behind the names of the wine flights, such as “Whimsical Whites,” “Pour Me a Pinot G,” and “Chardo Nay Nay.” They also have a large selection of craft beer, and feature cocktails such as “The Salty Russian” and “The Bubbly Turkey,” made to order by head bartender Kelly Holley Head.

TASTE hosts regular wine tastings, live music, exclusive wine dinners and has added a wine tasting course called “Not The Usual Suspects.” They have also hosted events such as SIPurbia, and will be presenting a Beerfest on July 14th. All events can be found on their Facebook page or by signing up for the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce’s weekly Enewsletter.

TASTE is open Monday through Saturday, 3:00pm until, as well as Sundays for brunch at 10:00am through the rest of the day. You can make reservations via their website, OpenTable, or on Facebook, but walk-ins are always welcome.
