World-renowned choreographer Vadim Fedotov helped the Montgomery Ballet bring “Snow White” to life for multiple performances at Alabama State University’s Leila Barlow Theatre and Greenville High School, entertaining hundreds. Vadim has choreographed in more than 50 different countries with professional ballet companies around the world since bringing his family to Florida from the Ukraine 20 years ago.

Frist Friday Cruise-In

JULY/AUGUST 2019

The Lower Dexter Improvement Association created First Friday Cruise-Ins at the summer’s start, and they have been a huge success with interest and crowds growing each month. Past featured car clubs have included the Capital City Corvette Club, Gump Jeeps, Mustangs & Model A’s and Truck Night. Some events featured pedal-car races and free haircuts by The Chop Shop and River Region Golden Shears. Local restaurants on the block, Momma Goldberg’s, Frios Pops, Cuco’s Mexican Café and Island Delight, stay open for those looking to grab a bite to eat.

Hampstead Taste & Tour

On April 6, the Samaritan Counseling Center and Hampstead hosted the third-annual Hampstead Taste & Tour fundraiser, which proved to be the most successful event yet. Nine Hampstead residents opened their beautifully-designed, private homes and created special food-and-drink tastings for guests to enjoy as they toured different parts of the homes and patios. Kicking off the tour, City Grill and Taste offered wine tastings, and Leola & Croff, the town center gift shop, offered discounts on specialty items and hosted a champagne tasting.

Inside Out: We Are The Dream

One of the largest, community-initiated, grassroots art installations in the U.S. was recently completed in downtown Montgomery on the exterior of One Court Square, as well as a variety of other downtown locations. Hailed as a global art project transforming messages of personal identity into works of art, “Inside Out: The People’s Art Project” is a magnificent collection of black-and-white portraits of community members.

MANE’s 2019 Course for Hope Golf Tournament, Dinner and Auction sponsored by Regions Bank

Renderings of Pegasus helped illustrate the theme of MANE’s Course for Hope 2019, which was to “Inspire New Heights!” On March 4, at Wynlakes Golf Course, 26 golf foursomes competed for Apple Watches, Apple 4K TVs, Lenovo Smart Displays and other prizes over the course of 18 holes. Hole-in-one prizes included two Riverside Chevrolet Silverados and a Tag Heuer watch, courtesy of Ware Jewelers.

The Alabama Dance Theatre concluded a weekend of four spectacular performances of the long-awaited, full-length ballet of “Beauty and the Beast,” choreographed by ADT’s very own Sara Sanford.

The huge cast of 80 was impressive in ADT’s most-extravagant performance to date. Creating atmospheric lighting and enhancing the beauty onstage was talented lighting designer Josh Monroe. Following the Saturday matinee, children were invited on stage to meet Beauty and her friends, have cast members autograph their admission tickets and take photographs with the dancers. As the children exited the stage the little girls received beautiful red roses and little boys were given toy swords.

Bal Masque

Saturday, January 26th was no ordinary evening in Montgomery. White rabbits, tea parties, and colorful costumes encouraged guests of the 56th Annual Bal Masque to journey “Down the Rabbit Hole.” The whimsical set of vibrant, overgrown mushrooms, gigantic flowers, and colorful hats transported the participants to a mystical garden party that made it difficult to remove one ’s self from. Garrett Coliseum served as the venue, and Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Hicks, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel White, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Stewart, Mr. Brandon Smirnoff and Ms. Kayla Denham, Mr. and Mrs. Beverly Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Andrea Murray, Mr. Robert Pelt and Ms. Jill Green served as the elegant floor and reception committee greeting the arriving guests.

ADT Presents Mistletoe & Dracula

On November 3-4, The Alabama Dance Theatre presented spectacular performances of “Dracula,” a ballet to die for, and “Mistletoe” featuring “Favorite Dances of Christmas,” all accompanied by full houses, thunderous applause, and standing ovations. The night before, a special “sneak peak” production and reception was held for military and first responders.

The Krewe of Athenians hosted its 69th annual ball on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Convention Center at the Renaissance Hotel. This elegant event featured a “Triple Crown” theme to celebrate the royal legacy of the current queen, Mary Elmore DeMott, daughter of Dr. Miles Lamar DeMott and Elmore Inscoe DeMott, the Queen of Athenians in 1988. Her grandmother, Elmore Bartlett Inscoe, was the first of the three Athenians crowns in 1960.

MANE Raise The Roof

Hundreds of River Region citizens gathered to show support for the area’s premier therapeutic riding facility, known as MANE, at the 10th annual “Raise the Roof” Seafood Celebration on Thursday, October 25th. MANE serves area children, adults and veterans who have physical, cognitive, emotional and developmental disabilities using equine-assisted activities. All labor and fabulous seafood, which was freshly prepared in MANE’s Poarch Creek Arena, was completely donated by Wintzell’s Oyster House, courtesy of owners Bob and Buffy Donlon from Mobile. Baptist Health, MAX Credit Union, and Spire Energy (formerly Alagasco) sponsored the event. Toes tapped to country music favorites from the Trotline Band as guests dined, mingled and made new acquaintances.

Driving Out Crime

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2018

What better way to help fight crime than spending an afternoon on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course? On October 12, this fundraiser was in full swing with 120 golfers who helped raise money for the Central Alabama CrimeStoppers organization. Program Coordinator Officer Tony Garrett started the tournament over ten years ago, but they really drove it home this year, raising almost $100,000.

Welle Studio’s 9th annual fashion event was held at the A&P Lofts in Cloverdale on October 16, 2018. This free event featured over 20 female models rocking this season’s fall trends from Welle Studio and sleepwear from Christine’s Feathered Nest. Sara Dogget Evenson, creator and designer of Marie Oliver, was available for a meet-and-greet for all the VIP guests before emceeing the event. The VIP pre-party was held at Vintage Cafe and included hors d’oeuvres, a drink ticket, and a swag bag with goodies and gift cards from Welle Studio and Christine’s Feathered Nest. Festiwelle is one of the most energetic fashion shows in Montgomery and wouldn’t be possible without the incredible ladies who rocked the runway and supporters who came out for the fun night!

Mystic Society officially opened the Montgomery Ball season with their 65th annual ball themed “You Can Call Me Zelda.” The Ladies of Merrie Mimics celebrated the 1920s and life of Zelda Fitzgerald, as well as the 100th anniversary of her meeting F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Mustache Run

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2018


Runners lined up outside Common Bond Brewers for the second annual 5K Montgomery Mustache Run on September 29th. This fundraiser raises money to support the Jackson Hospital Foundation. Over 300 runners and spectators, many sporting unique mustaches, lined up to help raise awareness of the importance of men’s health. Rich’s Carwash was on site offering free car washes and LAF Game Co. brought out their oversized games to keep kids and adults entertained. Common Bond Brewers provided beer for the event and runners at the finish line. Over $10,000 dollars was raised, which will help to expand medical services and facilities on the hospital campus.
